Purely Dominica

Dan
Dan Tanner and his wife Ruth first learned of Dominica from an article in National Geographic magazine in the late 1970s. They first came to Dominica with their daughter Mathilda, then aged 10, in 1987. They fell in love with the Nature Island and also quickly made friends here with whom they exchanged visits (the Tanners lived in Westborough MA from August 1977 to December 2008). Dan and Ruth bought a small plot of land on Calibishie’s middle ridge in 2004 and built a vacation lodge on it in 2005. They expanded the lodge in 2006 and when Ruth was able to retire at the end of 2008 they built their retirement villa on a level above their lodge. They live here now full-time. Ruth’s career was as a secretary, full-time mom, and finally as an office administrator. Dan served in the US Navy as an Electronics Technician, and then entered both the electronics industry and college. He worked with analog computers, digital mainframes, minicomputers, and PCs. He worked for several computer companies and finally as an independent consultant specializing in networked storage. He earned undergraduate degrees in Electronic Engineering, Physics (with a Mathematics minor), and Secondary Education (Physics, General Science & Mathematics at high-school level) and matriculated for a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance and Management). Ruth enjoys sewing, cooking, and gardening. Dan enjoys playing harmonica, fooling round with the computer, training their miniature schnauzers, and photography. Together (they married in 1973) Dan & Ruth enjoy all forms of nature: hiking, swimming and snorkeling, bird-watching, stargazing, etc. Their Web site is www.dan-ruth-tanner.com and their daughter’s (she’s a teacher and artist) is www.mathildasite.com.Dan Tanner and his wife Ruth first learned of Dominica from an article in National Geographic magazine in the late 1970s.
