Experience Dominica – The Nature Island: Dominica Vacations | Exotic Vacations | Honeymoon Destination

Dominica weekly is a personal weblog about the nature island of Dominica.

Researcher at MIT have developed a new, more sustainable energy efficient form of transportation for the world’s biggest cities. City Car , a personal, stackable, electric, goldfish bowl-esque mode of transportation, meant to be picked up in one location – and left for the next user at another one.

According to researchers at Smart Cities group at MIT Media lab, “The City car is NOT a replacement for personal vehicles, taxis, buses, or trucks; it just a new type of vehicle which promotes a sustainable energy and better means of urban mobility.

MIT Smart City plan’s to debut a prototype of the foldable electric scooter at the EICMA Motorcycle Show next week in Milan. You are maybe wondering, which world cities will be ideal for these smart City Cars? Smart City group hopes to target world cities like Taipei, which has nearly as many scooters as people.

I can understand why big cities commuters would like this sustainable transportation system, because there is no need to walk to the bus stop or the train station. You can just hop one of these City Cars/scooters and be on your way. But how do you prevent an inordinate number of cars from winding up parked at a few select locations? – Hmmm. 😯

Doesn’t make a bit of sense. What’s the price? I’ll bet once it is manufactured (like the dumb Segway Scooter) it will a toy for the rich at best. What’s it’s range? People must share these — lots of luck! I’ll bet it would lack the power to go up steep hills with a load, and it certainly hasn’t the ground clearance or wheels for less than perfect roads. They won’t be heated or air-conditioned. Tell you where they’ll first appear — in some rich resort, but not for free.
