Dominica News And From Around The Caribbean

Daylight savings happens three weeks early this year. I would have completely forgotten about if it wasn’t for my best friend Glenn. Normally, if you live in US your computers and VCR/DVD player will adjust for daylight saving times all by itself because it knows the date to move forward or move backward. However, because the US government decided to move daylights saving time three weeks early, you’ll most likely have to manually adjust the clock today. If you live in the Caribbean, then you have no worries.

Why move Daylight Saving time forward? Well, the US estimates moving daylight saving time three weeks earlier than schedule will save $47 billion in the next four years. And there I thought the only reason for daylight savings was to watch movies one hour earlier [later] 😀 .

Do you have daylight savings where you are ❓

The change is stupid. The net energy savings are close to zero, because more energy will be used to combat morning darkness. Schoolchildren in the western parts of time zones will be standing in the dark waiting for school buses.

Computer operating systems and many programs needed patches to adapt, and the patches that Microsoft sent for Office introduced errors into my appointment calendar.

I set my VCR to the correct time, and I had to turn the automatic DST feature off, or else the unit will jump ahead another hour at the old start date, and jump back an hour too soon in the fall.

This we get from those idiots in Congress who can’t extricate us from Iraq.
