Dominica’s Northeast begins from the junction entering Portsmouth from the south; go to the east (right) to head to the Atlantic Shore. The road winds through a lush area with many crops, including dasheen, bananas, and coconuts. Little side roads will take you up to remote villages such as Paix Bouche, Vielle Case, Thibaud, Pennville, and Blenheim where there are fabulous views out to sea and inland. These small villages are renowned for its magnificent beaches, crashing surf and secluded coves. The neighboring French islands of Les Saintes, Guadeloupe, and Marie-galante can be seen from Dominica’s Northeast coastline.
Walk on Red Rocks
We were fortunate; Luida and I to have fellow blogger Dan Tanner give a guided tour of Batibou Beach and the Red Rocks. Dan and his wife Ruth, fell in love with a small village called Calibishie (on Northeast), so much that they have decided to spend their baby boom years there, and built their vacation home there.
To get to Red Rocks you can take the track behind Calibishie Lodges or walk down the Pointe Baptiste road and walk along rusty red rocks that jut out to sea. There you will fabulous coastal and mountain views that will simply keep you breathless.
Villagers there are very friendly and are always willing to give you information about the history of the area, but most importantly they will also make you aware the safety precautions you should take when walking on the Red Rocks. Because the soil is soft as clay, it’s easy to lose your footing while walking on the Red Rocks. Also the rocks can be very slippery when wet. Use Caution.
In my opinion, visiting the Dominica’s Northeast is a must do, if you are looking for adventure and natural scenery.

Chris, it’s been 3 months since we went together to see these wonderful sights, and memory can play tricks. We went to Napier’s Beach, not Batibou Beach. And I was never a baby boomer — I was born before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Ruth is a baby boomer, though.
I was debating whether or not it was Batibou beach or Napier’s Beach we went too… Thanks Dan for clearly this up
