One thing I heard from my last manager that I will never forget is the word â€“ â€œFollow Upâ€. A lot of people donâ€™t realize it, you can learn a lot about your life if you just follow from time to time.
However, if you want to become a manager of anything, you have to practice using the word. You start a project; you will need to do follow up even though your project is already a year into completion. Check through if there are any complication, arising issue, hidden problem etc. Sometimes we are so busy involve in our personal life agendas, we donâ€™t even realize where we went wrong â€“ but following up or just taking some time reflecting on things of the pass can bring you great insight for the future.
And just like any project once youâ€™ve done that, plan your immediate action to address the problem and fine-tune the whole operation.
Finally, can you guess what the next thing to do is? You guess it right… Follow up again. I actually want to ask you this question. Howâ€™s that 2008 Resolution going?
Iâ€™m sure youâ€™ve a good idea where Iâ€™m going with this one. The most important step is NOT the percentage of achievement. It can be 0%, 10% or 20%. The most important step is actually â€œFOLLOW UPâ€. We need to check back every now and then on the progress of our resolution. The progress can be positive or negative, it doesnâ€™t matter. But when we follow up we will know our status and hopefully after that we can structure our plan to get back on track.
My question to you is: If you can put a percentage on your resolution achievement, what percentage would that be?
