Purely Dominica

With the 2008 calypso finals just one week away, you can feel the excitement in the air. Everyone wants to see who will be 2008 calypso king of Dominica. With four former calypso monarchs making through to the finals to compete for the title on February 2nd at the Windsor Park Sport Stadium.

The four former Monarchs who will do battle in the finals are Observer, Dice, Daddy Chess, and Scrunter.

Dice, a three-peat king topped the judges card and Dominica –Weekly dot com Opinion Poll (if you haven’t voted, please do) with “Roll de Dice”…with Daddy Chess following on his heels in second place with “Forward we go.” Scrunter with “Calypso is Big Man Thing” placed third.

Webb, who sang “pass-port to success” and who some thought could have been a casualty placed fourth followed by Karessah with his witty piece “Virgin.” Tarina placed sixth and Observer, seventh. Sys who wept bitterly last year after not finding favor with judges, used his song this year to call on the judges to remove all bias for their minds in their considerations, were he hammered them in his song inconsistencies. His song entitled “Doh Judge” earned him the eight spot while Sandy who many thought should have been crowned last year ahead of the reigning king Hunter, placed ninth.

The stage is set for a grand final, who will become the 2008 Calypso Monarch of Dominica? Your guess is as good as mine…we just have wait to see who performs the best on the night, and as the three-peat king Dice says: Roll de Dice … and see 😛
