Dominica is one the Caribbean island blessed with an abundance of foods. Because of Dominica rich fertile soil and tropical climate, all types of produce grow very easily here. For example a variety fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, bananas, coconuts, coffee, cocoa, and spices.

Since the 18th century, Dominica’s diverse heritage is evident in the mixture of French, West African and Carib cuisine. This created a distinctly Creole taste! Chicken and fish, which are seasoned with local spices, are popular daily menu items. You will also find “provisions,” which are starchy root vegetables as part of the main meal. Callaloo or pumpkin soup and fresh green salads are also common fares which are usually serve as an entrée or side dishes.
