Do Away With the Idea of an Oil Refinery

Griffin St Hillaire, Dominican working with the UN, said the pressure should be kept up on the Government. To do away with the idea of an oil refinery, this would destroy the image of the Nature Island.

Closure of Festivals Commission

A Festivals task force has been set up, headed by Sobers Esprit after Cabinet fired Val Cuffy; who was the reigning President of DFC. This follows the closure of the Festivals Commission, and will allow preparation to begin on the planning of the World Creole Music Festival.

Child Abuse Increase

Head of the Child Abuse Prevention unit said there has been an increase of about 30% of reported cases of child abuse. Most cases were of physical abuse.

Easier Doing Business in Dominica

Prime Minister Skerrit said several measures were being put in place to facilitate doing business in Dominica, including the appointment of a Customs Reform officer, along with reforms of the court and Registry systems.

Concerns About Basic Needs Projects

The Caribbean Development Bank has expressed concerns about the pace of implementing projects under the Basic Needs Trust Fund. An official arrived in Dominica this week with an aim to work with stakeholders to speed up projects.
