Layou River Hotel – The Real Thing!

Remember the Layou River Hotel project, Yeah, the same project which was under controversy surrounding the sale of Dominican passports. This is no talk; this is the real thing .Sino Union (Caribbean) Holding Limited recently bought over from the Grace Tonge Group. The Times Newspaper reported in their February 28th issue, that the Investors have contracted the Shanghai Construction Group out of China to build the facility. At the initial stage of the project hundred of Dominicans will be employed, as soon as the Government gives the Investors the ok and accepts the proposal.

Open Thread: I think our government spends too much time in just talk, the Dominican people are tired. Job development is what the people need and it’s about getting the projects done. Too many times we see investors run to other Caribbean island with their investment ideas. I pray that this new Layou River Project don’t go down the same road.

This could be a good thing. If it attracts tourists, and not “poor-ists” like those that debark from cruise ships. A small number of first-class luxury accommodations can provide good, stable employment. To those hoping for such employment, it should be noted that the ability to sound like an American in speaking (a Caribbean lilt is pleasant, though), because Americans who are spending a lot don’t want to bother struggling to understand. We have sufficient infrastructure for small numbers of visitors, and those visitors enjoy being “off the main tourist track” — it makes them feel adventurous.
