		<description><![CDATA[ While the various members of the European Union ponder their next steps to shore up their respective deficit and debt positions, there is a little known banking arrangement in the Caribbean that has managed quite nicely to deal with similar issues, although on a much smaller scale, since 1965. The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (“OECS”) is comprised of nine independent states in the region, but, with the exception of the British Virgin Islands, eight of these member states have joined to form the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union and operate with a common currency, the East Caribbean Dollar (sign: “EC$”; code: “XCD”). The “XCD” is not a free-floating currency.  It is presently “pegged” to the U.S. ]]></description>

The week of activities will celebrate the contribution of libraries in building societies, promote library use and encourage active community participation to improve reading. Petter Saint-Jean, Minister for Education and Human Resource Development will deliver the feature address at the opening ceremony at the Marigot Branch Library on Monday to start off the programme of activities which includes training in information skills, community outreach, literacy activities, an exhibition and education advising. Library officials will visit the State Prison on Tuesday for a reading session with inmates and host an open day on Wednesday when university officials will hold an education advising session for people interested in pursuing university studies. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[ Charles Alexander Winston Agriculturist and hotelier Charles Alexander Winston is dead. Winston died peacefully on Monday 7th May, 2012 at approximately 8:30 a.m. He was born in Roseau on 25th November 1917. Winston gained employment with the Department of Agriculture as an extension officer during which time he attended the University of the West Indies in Trinidad where he pursued studies in Animal Husbandry.  He continued working in this field, and later joined the firm of Foley &#038; Ban as manager of Woodford Hill Estate.  The firm of Foley &#038; Ban was subsequently sold to Geest Industries &#038; Co. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[ The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will be discussed at the meeting Senior officials representing Caribbean governments grouped under the CARIFORUM arrangement will this week dialogue with their European counterparts at a special meeting at the Fort Young Hotel. Friday’s joint dialogue between the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean Pacific States (CARIFORUM) and the European Union is expected to provide an opportunity to exchange information, foster mutual and better understanding and define common priorities and shared agendas. The Trade Ministry here says the meeting will cover all issues of mutual interest and concern on a common global, regional or sub-regional level. The CARIFORUM is a grouping of sixteen (16) Caribbean States which was established formally in 1992 to facilitate economic dialogue with the European Union (EU). ]]></description>
