Charles Alexander Winston Agriculturist and hotelier Charles Alexander Winston is dead. Winston died peacefully on Monday 7th May, 2012 at approximately 8:30 a.m. He was born in Roseau on 25th November 1917. Winston gained employment with the Department of Agriculture as an extension officer during which time he attended the University of the West Indies in Trinidad where he pursued studies in Animal Husbandry. He continued working in this field, and later joined the firm of Foley & Ban as manager of Woodford Hill Estate. The firm of Foley & Ban was subsequently sold to Geest Industries & Co.

I was very fortunate to be Maynard’s Campaign manager in the 1995 general elections in Dominica. Maynard delivered to the people of the Soufriere Constituency in many different ways and in every ministry he held with the Dominica freedom Party. The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will be discussed at the meeting Senior officials representing Caribbean governments grouped under the CARIFORUM arrangement will this week dialogue with their European counterparts at a special meeting at the Fort Young Hotel. Friday’s joint dialogue between the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean Pacific States (CARIFORUM) and the European Union is expected to provide an opportunity to exchange information, foster mutual and better understanding and define common priorities and shared agendas. The Trade Ministry here says the meeting will cover all issues of mutual interest and concern on a common global, regional or sub-regional level. The CARIFORUM is a grouping of sixteen (16) Caribbean States which was established formally in 1992 to facilitate economic dialogue with the European Union (EU).

The late Ambassador, His Excellency Charles Maynard served in the Public and Private Sectors and became a Permanent Secretary at a very youthful age. He also held a number of managerial positions in the Private Sector. Charles Maynard: January 18,1934 - May 8, 2012 From very humble beginnings as a child of a single parent in one of the poorer areas of Roseau, Charles Maynard worked hard every step of the way to serve and to achieve. Maynard was born in Roseau on 18 January 1934, the only child of Angelina Simon. As a school boy at the Dominica Grammar School he stood out as an exemplary student. He was a founding member of the Dawbiney Literary Club and an editor of its magazine, Dawnlit
