One young man is currently nursing serious head injuries at the Princess Margaret Hospital following what appears to be gang-related violence in a Roseau North community. The young man, who is employed as a government surveyor, was reported to have been struck with a boulder by another young man who was accompanied by several other young men. Eye witnesses say the right side of the young man’s face appeared to have been severely damaged. He was rescued by neighbors who subsequently called the ambulance services which transported him to the hospital
Police have reported a breakthrough in the investigations of a robbery which occurred at the Western Union branch in Roseau on Thursday morning. Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kenth Matthew told Dominica News Online that two men has been taken into custody on the same day and a substantial amount of the money was recovered. He said one security guard was slightly wounded in the incident and a pregnant woman employee of the establishment was traumatized. They were taken to hospital and subsequently released
Dominica’s top cop Cyril Carette is warning would be offenders and “troublemakers” that the police will be on the lookout for them during the carnival celebrations and will take “a zero tolerance” approach to dealing with bad behavior. While agreeing that over the past years the two day street jump-up by revelers has been rather peaceful, Commissioner Carrette says the police will closely monitor the situation this year. “As we approach carnival we are urging persons to be more peaceful and civilized with each other, we will have major police presence,” the Commissioner told Dominica News Online.
