One of the island’s best, Michele Henderson, will feature as the headline act at one of the so-called warm up acts at the Belles-located River Stone Bar and Grill. Dubbed an authentically Dominica Riverside Jazz Lime, the Saturday May 26 event is expected to highlight both jazz and creole.

Rocket speaks of his new CD and his musical journey during an interview with DNO He’s is the singer who helped uplift Swinging Stars’ music when he became the band’s vocalist at 16, the Wooden Stools musician who would have made it into the original Exile One line-up but missed out because his mom thought he was too young to be based in Guadeloupe at the time. More popularly known as Rocket, Brian Rock has always been one of the better vocalists to come out of Dominica. He’s been doing his thing with a Chicago-based band for years now, but has just released his first solo CD – Hang in There. “No matter how things are rough, hang in there,” is the message he’s sending through the title track

Grammacks, with new lead singer, Linford John(extreme right) “The original members of Gramacks never really stopped playing music per se. We were not playing together as a band, but since the band broke up, we all continued playing individually.” A quote from one Dominica’s biggest cadence bands of the seventies, Gramacks, who, along with the creators of cadence-lypso music, Exile One, can be credited with having significantly impacted the French Caribbean with that music. The band has released its second CD since it was revived in 2009. The group’s original front man, the late Jeff Jo, was not part of that revival and Linford John, former lead singer of the group “Billomen”, was enlisted to fill that position. “Because of modern technology, we were able to complete this CD without any of us being in the same room together, at any given time, during the entire recording process! That, we think, is quite remarkable!” Gramacks state in a press release
