The tanker Officials said no oil was spilt into the sea when a taker carrying fuel ran aground off Mero last week. Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Sea Port Authority, Bennoit Bardouille said the tanker received only a dent and a cut in the haul when it wedged against a rock in six feet of water. Bardouille pointed out that the authorities had to then devise a plan to get the tanker up sailing again, without causing any spills.

The second edition of the Dominica leg of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT Roadshow moves to the remote, rural community of Petite Soufriere on Thursday December 29th 2011. Designed to raise regional awareness of the innovative approaches required for the effective application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in every sphere of endeavour, the theme for the Roadshow is Harnessing the Power of Innovation – the engine for ICT-enabled Caribbean development. The event at Petite Soufriere is part of a Community Outreach Program launched in November 2011 to sensitize communities around the island to the nature and objectives of the Roadshow, while the main Roadshow event will be hosted in Roseau from January 16th to 19th 2012. The Community Outreach Program has so far consisted primarily of highlighting of e-government initiatives like the ASUCUDA World solution already deployed at the ports, the Unified Land Information system (ULIS), the Agricultural Information Management System (AIMS) and the government website (www.dominica.gov.dm)

Traffic in flood waters at Ravine Cork The Meteorological Office here has cautioned Dominicans to remain alert as heavy rainfall continues to lash the island. Several communities are still dealing with the impact of landslides and flooding, after heavy rains over the past few days. Three families had to evacuate their homes in Petite Soufriere yesterday because of landslides and more than seven landslides were reported in Castle Bruce. Senior Met Officer Sheryl Leblanc has warned that once rainfall continues, more land slippage will occur as soils are saturated, and rivers will overflow their banks
