Bike accident in Fond Cole

Dominica News Online has gotten information that there was an accident in Fond Cole earlier this evening. Reports indicate that the accident involved a bike. Reports also indicate and one person was severely injured. DNO is seeking more information on this matter and will publish it as soon as it becomes available.

BREAKING NEWS: Checko served with legal letter

Checko The lone new comer in the finals of the 2012 Calypso competition, Police officer Abel “Checko” Jno Baptiste, was on February 8, 2012 served with a letter from the attorney of Bolivarian Republic Ambassador Dr. Philbert Aaron after he penned a song “Bug or bug her.” According to the letter from Dr Aaron’s lawyer, Noelise N. Knight Didier, “Our instructions are that you have penned a song entitled “Bug” or “Bug her” and that you also perform same under the calypso name Checko. Our instructions are that you have caused this song to be recorded in permanent form and broadcast publically via radio…We are instructed however, that your said song quite clearly makes reference to our client, by the description as well as by the use of his office and initials, ‘Ambassador A’ and further that you allege therein that he ‘bug her”.

What I didn’t expect to see was a 2010 “Scenery of the Great Wall” calendar. This calendar was displayed prominently on the back wall of the office. My visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica (not to be confused with its Caribbean island neighbor, the Dominican Republic) coincided with the Chinese Lunar New Year.

DPSU advised to oppose making Sunday a normal work day

Mervin Anthony Dominica’s Public Service Union (DPSU) has been advised to strongly protest against a campaign proposing to make Sunday a normal working day. The union’s former president, Mervin Anthony says the DPSU “must fight” against the Sunday work proposal being pushed by the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC). “It is thrown in the air to see how we will respond … when they realize how serious we are they will have second thoughts. We cannot wait for these guys to begin to discuss the matter in parliament before we show our disapproval…we must begin to speak now,” Anthony said

India ministers quit after caught watching porn in parliament

India's parliament Three Indian politicians from a morally conservative party, including a women’s affairs minister, resigned on Wednesday after being caught watching pornography on a mobile phone during a session of state parliament. News channels broadcast footage showing Karnataka state Minister for Cooperation Laxman Savadi sharing a porn clip with his colleague C.C. Patil, the minister for women and child development, while sitting in the state assembly. The owner of the phone, state Minister for Ports, Science and Technology Krishna Palemar, also quit.
