Bellot commends Dominica/China relationship

Bellot Local businessman Parry Bellot is commending the government of Dominica and China on their eigth anniversary of diplomatic relations. Bellot says the construction of the Windsor Park Stadium is one of the most valuable gifts deriving from that relationship. He also congratulated China for their contribution towards education and infrastructure.

Out of control anger lands young man in court

Twenty year old Yannick Patrick of Yampiece received a four month suspended sentence on Tuesday morning, after being charged with resisting arrest and using insulting language. Patrick was arrested and charged at his residence for verbally assaulting police officers who were executing a search warrant there. In court the unemployed Yampiece resident expressed remorse for his actions and explained that his anger “went out of control”. He denied resisting arrest and told the magistrate that he was trying to stay out of trouble

Chinese scholarships proving useful in workplace – PM

Photo by GIS The hundred or so scholarships that China has provided Dominica over the past eight years are proving useful in the workplace, according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The prime minister told reporters at a news conference that “there are students (former students) who are working on various government projects”. He made particular reference to one who worked as “communications manager for the Chinese road construction firm”.

Gloria Shillingford pays tribute to Shernel Prince

Shernel Prince Across the board tribute is being paid to 21 year old Shernel Prince, who died on Monday night in a hospital bed in Port of Spain. Her demise comes after major surgery that was intended to save the young Wesley woman’s life. Dominicans through pledges totaling EC$48,000 and the government through an earlier donation of TT$185,000 had tried to help her family get the medical attention necessary. Shernel’s father Mathew Prince had expressed disappointment that additional funds sought from the government to further assist his daughter had not been forthcoming.
