Q95News – The seven member CARICOM Electoral Observation Mission led by Mr. Hensley Robinson of Barbados, with members coming from Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Jamaica and the CARICOM Secretariat, says the 2009 general elections were free from fear. The mission which arrived in Dominica on December 15th, says before observing the conduct of elections, they were able to meet with the President, the Prime Minister, the various Political Party leaders, the Dominica Evangelical Association, DNCW, DAIC, MWAD among other organizations.
According to Mr. Robinson they also observed motorcades and attended political rallies. He expressed pleasure in the manner in which the elections were conducted, and noted that on the day of elections, Poll workers executed their duties satisfactorily, and police officers were present at all polling sites maintaining security. No preliminary recommendations were given at that conference.
Robinson says a report of the general elections will subsequently be prepared and submitted to the CARICOM Secretary-General His Excellency Edwin W. Carrington, which will include recommendations relating to best practices in relation to the electoral process.
