The Dominica government said it held talks with Venezuela to provide agricultural products at a cheaper price to local farmers. Farmers have voiced concern over the high cost of agricultural inputs saying they could be forced to go out of business.
In addition the shortage of fertiliser has added to their woes at a time when the Roosevelt Skerrit government has called on farmers to increase productivity. Import Distributors Limited, the main suppliers of agricultural inputs in Dominica, said it has had to reduce its profits in order to keep prices at a fair level to farmers.
