Caribbean Net News – It seems as if there may be a photo finish in Friday’s elections in Dominica. Although two polls predict that Roosevelt Skerrit’s Dominica Labour Party (DLP) will return to power with a wide margin, for a third consecutive term, there are indications that the poll might be wrong, since the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP), under the leadership of Ron Green, has intensified its campaign and is gaining momentum.
Allegations seem to be mounting about alleged voter irregularities in that more than a million US dollars will be spent in air passages to fly in DLP supporters from as far as the United Kingdom, North America and other Caribbean islands to vote on Friday, which prompted former Chief Justice Brian Alleyne, who also served as Attorney General under the Eugenia Charles Freedom Party administration, to issue a warning that it would be a violation of the House of Assembly (Elections Act) if voters travelled on air tickets provided by a political party in order to secure votes.
