ROSEAU, Dominica –The tiny island of Dominica plans to use $20 million from a trade group of leftist-ruled Latin American nations to improve housing, education and health services. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says $6 million will go toward repairing, building and financing homes. The remainder will be used to build schools and repair roads and hospitals.
Political opponents have criticized the eastern Caribbean island for becoming a member of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas.
That group’s members include Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Bolivia and Nicaragua.
Skerrit made the comments late Thursday.
