Antiguasun.com | Sept 04, 2008

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – President of the Windward Islands Cricket Board, Emmanuel Nanthan, said that all systems are in place for the hosting of the 2008 Windward Islands senior cricket tournament.

The tournament, which will be hosted in Dominica, will bowl off on Sunday. According to Nanthan, preparations are well on the way for the hosting of a successful tournament and the teams will begin to arrive this Saturday.

“All the teams have made their arrangements to travel to Dominica and they will arrive on Saturday in time for the tournament which starts on Sunday. Our preparations are in an advanced state and all the pitches and facilities are in order,” he said.

“We have done a lot of work at the various venues and everything seems to be in place. So far we are pleased with the way things are progressing and we have done all the bookings at the hotels,” Nanthan, who is also president of the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA), said.

The island has been experiencing some inclement weather at this time and Nanthan hopes that the rains will go away in time for tournament. The tournament will begin with the two-day segment which will be played on a round-robin basis followed by the limited overs version, which will also be played on a round-robin basis.

Matches for the tournament are carded for the Windsor Park Stadium and the Botanic Gardens in Roseau, as well as the Geneva Playing field in Grand Bay and the Benjamin’s Park in the north of the island.
