ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – United States-based Dominican sprinter Chris Lloyd said he is pleased with his build-up to the Beijing Olympics and is determined to medal at the prestigious games.

Lloyd is one of two athletes who will represent the island at this summer’s Olympic Games and is expected to compete in the 200 metres and 400 metres. The other athlete, Ericson Hurtault, will compete in the 400 metres event.

Lloyd, who represented Dominica at the Sydney Olympics four years ago, said that his preparations and conditioning would put him in good stead ahead of the games.

“Right now, I am feeling really good. My training and all are progressing satisfactorily,” Lloyd said.

“It would appear that everything that I have been working on all throughout the year is falling into place at the right time. So I am well prepared for the task at hand and hope to medal at the Olympics.”

He continued: “Right now, I am really excited about the whole thing and I will continue my training while in China until it is my turn to compete on the 18th.”<.p>

Lloyd, a Pan Am bronze medalist in 2007, said for the exception of Jamaican Usain Bolt, he expected all the other athletes to be on par.

“Right now, the way things are looking and everybody’s current form it’s only one guy who is ahead of the pack and that’s the Jamaican Usain Bolt. Outside of that, everybody else is pretty much running the same time,” Lloyd said.

“In competitions like this, anything can happen, in terms of injuries and so on. So I am hoping to say fit and in good form.”

Lloyd, who has represented Dominica at various regional and international meets, said he was determined to showcase his best effort.

“I have always known that I am very much capable of competing against those guys and that’s what I will do,” the 27-year-old said.

“I will put on my best effort to run the qualifying rounds and then to bring home the medal at the final. Thanks to everybody and God bless and I just want everybody to root for me and support me.”
