CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - MARAH WALTER of Dominica was crowned Miss Caribbean Culture Queen following a very competitive contest held at the Cultural Complex, Nevis on Friday, July 25.
First Runner-up was Janeisha John of the USVI while the Second Runner-up position went to Shanel Nanton of St. Vincent and St. Kitts’ Fatisha Imo was the Third Runner-up.
“I feel very good. I have reaped what I sowed,” Walter said shortly after she was crowned, while Nanton said the contest was “good” and Imo described it as “very competitive”.
Walter was chaperoned by Chandra Irish who said, “She did very well!” The audience was extremely impressed by Walter during the Talent Segment when she sang a moving calypso that implored parents to take control and discipline their children.
Imo, in the Talent Segment, showcased the impact of Global Warming and other unfriendly environment activities. Other impressive messages passed on to the audience by the contestants included strategies in the fight against crime and the use of traditional ways to conserve energy to cope with rising fuel costs.
Winners of the various Segments are: Miss Congeniality, Daina Barnes of Antigua;Best Promotional Speech and Best Island Wear, Shanel Nanton of St. Vincent; Best Swimwear awarded to Dominican Marah Walter; Best Talent, Miss St. Kitts Fatisha Imo; while the Best Evening Wear prize was awarded to Miss Dominica and the Best Interview Segment trophy went to Janeisha John of the USVI.
