Seven Dominican students earned baccalaureate and masters’ degrees at Midwestern State University’s Commencement Ceremony December 11. They were among the 35 students from the Caribbean and over 460 in the university to earn degrees.
Gizelle Simpson earned a master’s degree in biology. The former teacher previously earned her bachelor’s degree from the university three years previously. Shana Desire and Dale Joseph both earned the esteemed magna cum laude honors. Desire was recognized for having completed her BBA in Finance in just 2.5 years and Joseph earned a BBA in accounting in three years, both well ahead of schedule.
Samara McIntyre graduated with cum laude honors with a BS in biology and chemistry minor. She also had the distinction of graduating ahead of schedule. Nesia Augustine earned a BBA in accounting and was recognized for her many on campus organization activities. Jehan Monelle earned a BBA in Management Information Systems and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. Deana Evans earned the BSN in Nursing.
Over 160 Dominican students have earned degrees from Midwestern since 1995 and seventy-three students are currently enrolled, making it the largest contingent from the Caribbean.
Fifteen new students from Dominica will be accepted to Midwestern State University in August 2011, and will be part of the almost 1000 who have been recruited in the 17 year history of the program. The Government of Dominica provides support to individual students and to the program in general.
