Environmentalist Atherton Martin says while some persons stress the need for Dominica to take a no nonsense stance where it concerns implementing tariffs to protect farmers and the need to acquire reliable and stable markets for local produce, the relevant sectors must ensure that Dominica is ready and able to supply demands on the regional and international markets and provide quality produce which meets expected standards.
Mr. Martin questions whether the productive capacity is at the level at which it needs to be in order to accommodate the extended markets persons seem to want. He says fair policies for imports and exports are needed but it is critical that the local issues are addressed first.
