Lloyd To Pull Out of 400m Event in Beijing

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – Chris Lloyd, one of two athletes representing the country at the Olympic Games in Beijing, has opted to pull out of the 400 metres and will now concentrate on competing solely in the 200 metres sprint.

The 27-year-old Lloyd, was originally scheduled to compete in both the 200 and 400 metres.

According to Chef de Mission of the Dominica team, Mickey Joseph, Lloyd had been forced to pull out of the 400m event because both races were scheduled for the same day.

“Basically, we have settled down nicely and we will be attending the Technical Committee meeting where we will be confirming the participation of our athletes into the events that they will be taking part in on Wednesday,” Joseph said.

“We will have to make a few adjustments, though, as it relates to Chris Lloyd. He was scheduled to run the 200m and 400m, but because the both races are so close to each other and on the same day it will not be possible for him to take part in both events.

“At this point in time, we are in discussions with his coach and it is felt that he is better suited to run the 200m because he has had some good times running in that event. So he has decided to do the 200m alone,” Joseph explained.

Dominica’s other athlete in Beijing, Ericson Hurtault, will compete in the 400 metres.
