Mining License was not granted to Agpit, says Minister

quarry in the caribbean

By Kimberly Benjamin – q95fm News.

Residents of Coulibistrie yesterday stood up against a mining company in order to stop operations which have started in that community. Villagers claim that they are fed up with the quarry industry, and their major concern is that of the proximity of the quarry to the village. Residents see it as hazardous, posing a serious threat to their health.

Minister Responsible for National Security and the Minister for Mining Reginald Austrie yesterday visited the Coulibistrie Village. Austrie guaranteed the villagers that the US Company behind this quarrying matter had not been issued a mining license.

Meanwhile, the Physical Planning Division has confirmed granting a permit to US based company Agpit to establish a quarry at Coulibistrie. Senior Physical Planner Kelvin Rolle made that disclosure on Monday. He said Agpit applied to the Physical Planning Division in September of 2006 for permission to commence works.
