Ambassador Charles Maynard to be laid to rest

Ambassador Charles Maynard Former public servant, businessman, politician, parliamentarian and diplomat Charles Maynard is receiving an official send-off on Tuesday afternoon. The Dominica Government earlier declared Tuesday a day of mourning for Ambassador Maynard while announcing that it was affording him an official funeral. The Dominican Flag is being flown at half staff on all public buildings in the State. Dominica’s ambassador to CARICOM and the OECS, Charles Maynard died on May 8 (2012) at the Princess Margaret Hospital – he had been ill for a number of months

UPDATE: No confirmation of airplane crash (with video)

This is what the eyewitness reported seeing earlier Monday evening Police and airport officials here said on Tuesday they could not confirm reports that an aircraft may have gone down in the sea off the Salibia area. Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector John Carbon said searches overnight had yielded nothing. Head of the Dominica Airport and Seaport Authority (DASPA), Benoit Bardouille has also been reporting that all aircraft which were scheduled to land or take off at Melville Hall Airport had been accounted for, and that French authorities in the neighboring islands were also reporting that their planes were all accounted for. There however remain persistent suggestions that the “ball of fire” seen by some eyewitnesses on Monday evening was a plane crashing into the sea

UPDATE: Occurence off Carib Terrritory was a waterspout – eyewitness

This is what the eyewitness reported seeing earlier this evening Dominica News Online has been informed by a reliable eyewitness that the occurrence off the coast off the Carib Territory was actually a ‘waterspout.’ According to Wikepedia a waterspout is a rotating column of water and spray formed by a whirlwind occurring over the sea or other body of water. He said he saw the phenomena earlier this evening and can say that it was not a plane crash. He also said he did not see any fireball as reported by other eyewitnesses. However DNO is receiving information that a French private plane may have gone down in that area but this has not been independently confirmed.

Ball of fire reported falling into sea off Carib Territory

Dominica News Online has been informed of an occurrence off the coast of the Kalinago Territory earlier this evening. Eyewitnesses report a strange ball of fire tumbling into the sea off the Carib Model Village also known as the Barata Aute. The eyewitnesses are saying that it could be an airplane crashing into the sea but the police have not been able to confirm this. The police said they have received reports of the occurrence and they are presently investigating it
