Weather forecasters at the Colorado State University have reduced their forecast for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season.
The research team on Tuesday predicted that ten tropical storms will form, with four strengthening into hurricanes.
That’s down from their June prediction of 11 tropical storms with five hurricanes.
Tuesday’s forecast said two of the hurricanes would be Category three or higher, with sustained winds of more than 110 miles per hour.
This is the third time the Colorado State team has reduced its forecast this year, due to cooler than expected sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and the development of El Nino conditions in the eastern Pacific.
