Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit attended the ABLA summit on the weekend Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has confirmed that the eight-nation bloc of Latin American and Caribbean ALBA countries agreed on Sunday to deposit one percent of their international reserves into a jointly administered development bank as they seek to deepen economic cooperation. However he says the decision, announced by officials as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez hosted leaders of the Bolivarian Alliance bloc, or ALBA, at a meeting in Caracas, takes into account the financial status of the three OECS countries which currently enjoy ALBA membership. Media reports following the meeting said the countries that have agreed to deposit 1 percent of their international reserves in the ALBA Bank include members Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda and St.

Wiltshire accuses DLP of reneging on election promise; audio of interview attached

Former attorney general Bernard Wiltshire is accusing the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) administration of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of reneging on an election promise to get rid of the country’s economic citizenship programme. Wiltshire, who served as attorney general between 2000 and 2001, said he was not only now speaking out on a matter he feels strongly about. He says while serving as AG “I tried to stop it in Cabinet.  First of all I tried to review it in the cabinet”.

Dominica Nurses Association recognizes Agnes Brooks

Brooks The Dominica Nurses Association (DNA) has once again awarded one of its members for her sterling contribution to nursing and nursing education in Dominica. The recipient is Agnes Brooks, a retired Nurse Educator who served from 1970 to 1997 at the then Princess Margaret School of Nursing (now Faculty of Health Sciences, Dominica State College). Brooks also served as Principal Tutor of that institution for the latter 15 years of the said period. During her tenure Brooks kept abreast with the many changes which were taking place in nursing education in order to offer and deliver training programs that would produce a highly qualified and disciplined cadre of nurses, who would best meet the health needs of the ever changing society.

UPDATE: Aussie cricket coming to Dominica

Dominicans are waiting with high expectation over the next 24 hours to learn if the 3rd Digicel Test between West Indies and Australia carded for April 23, 2012 will be switched from the Guyana National Stadium to Windsor Park Dominica. A release from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) states it will announce its position with regard to the 3rd Digicel Test after discussions with other stakeholders. The change has become necessary because of an unresolved impasse between the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and an interim management committee over the governance of the affairs of cricket in that country.

Antigua Labor Party to file court documents today

Antigua Opposition Leader Lester Bird Opposition Leader Lester Bird says court documents will be filed on Monday to stop Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer from moving ahead with changes to the Antigua Barbuda Electoral Commission. In a reaction to the recent court victory of ousted commissioner Sir Gerald Watt, Bird, in a statement noted that the ALP had considered naming Watt as one of its appointees to ABEC, but could not do so largely based on the age limit imposed by the changes.
