Members of the United Worker Party (UWP) protest against corruption.
It was timed for maximum impact; it was executed with precision and stealth and so it took most people by surprise. As the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was about to begin reading the 2008-2009 budget address in the House of Assembly last Thursday morning, member of the United Workers Party (UWP) stood, drew hidden placards from their briefcases and displayed them in parliament.
When Alix Boyd Knights, the speaker of the House of Assembly commanded the protesting members to takes their seats they all walked out. The protest was live drama to the packed parliament but also to thousands of Dominicans who were watching to proceedings on MARPIN Telecoms and Broadcasting and on SAT TV.
Nonetheless, it appears that Dominica can brace itself for more political protest in the weeks and months ahead as the government faces unrelenting charges of corruptions.
