Tuesday night Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerritt announced on the state radio station (DBS) that Hon. Ambrose George will no longer be the Minister for Public Works & Infrastructural Development, and that Rayburn Blackmore was given Mr. George’s Ministry.

Prime Minister Skerritt also announced a Cabinet reshuffle. Rayburn Blackmore is now the Minister for Public Works & Infrastructural Development, PM Skerrit now undertake the responsibility of National Security. Senator Sonia Williams is now Minister of Education, Sports, Human Resource & Youth Affairs, and Hon. Vince Henderson was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Labour.

In other news, 25-year-old Yannick Lander was charged with the murder of 24-year-old Duane Pinard.

From an integrity point of view, Ambrose should not have been selected for a cabinet appointment initially to start with. The PM thought that in 2006 he was making a wise political decision to woo him into the party, and solidify Labor’s base, but he had not had the depth of perspective or maturity to know or care of the implications of that appointment given the former minister’s earlier questionable deals including the FBI detention. I suppose the constituents did not care either. It took so long to see a trend with the former minister: get rich quick at all costs. Unfortunately many politicians adopt similiar habits. Some just don’t get caught.

I don’t think the cabinet needed to have been expanded however, with another senator. Looks like the same old “job for the boys” politics scenario at the cost of taxpayers.
