People let us stop the nonsense. The issue is about human rights. Jesus said Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So simple put, dont label people, accept them, and allow them the same rights you take for granted for yourself. If we stop the labels, we would stop the hate. Now I think everybody should marry, and everybody should be counselled that once they get married they cannot separate. Again that was Jesus teaching. Find a partner u love settle. We are limiting Gods creativity if we think he only created heterosexual, God was very curious and inventive, in his experements he created all sorts, black ,yellow ,pink, blue-black, grey-white, browns, just look at nature, and say that God did not create differences in people, physically so why not sexually?. Now trans-is another subject, but u know something, that is their prerogative so I respect them. Jesus also said mind your own business. Judge Not He loves ALL his creations. Not some all. I have this to say to my black brethren, remember is the same misinterpretation of scripture that was used to enslave us, segregrate, and to support the system of aparthied. The same scripture that was used to refuse us the basic human rights of marriage, the same scritpure that was used to dehumanise us. Let us not buy into the religious bigotry used by some to control many. Let us read the bible with intelligent understanding, and note that the only them of Jesus was love towards your fellow man. The rest are just stories of mankind creulty towards each other without Jesus love in thier hearts. so all u haters, please stop quoting scriptures and start living by loving and accepting.

Dear Sean

Your response is so convoluted it is hard to tell where to begin. You suggest I and othersget out of our "narrow little world" yet you promote a one-right-way, your way, of being and deny others the right to live their own lives. Your position defines "narrow little world." To the contrary, I promote that people have the right to live their own lives however they are, and that how others live their lives is none of your, or my, damned business.

There is no evidence that gays harm society, none, zip, nada. Gays have always been part of all societies. Your homophobia is a promotion of hate. Anyone can argue that they have the one right way, and in so doing, the implication is that anyone who is different should be criminalized, punlished, and through out history, slaughtered. Your position leads inevitably to killing people different from yourself. There is no way around it. So, is that what you really mean? I hope not. I also hope you explore the implications of your thinking.

Yours is a position of hate. It is a position of intolerance for diversity and difference. I promote the idea of equality for all. That in no way leads to people being free to do anything they want, anywhere any time. Accepting of equal rights has nothing to do with people doing anything they want. You overgeneralize. Of course societies need rules governing social behavior. But being gay or straight has nothing to do with any of the other nonsense that has been raised by others on this thread. People have the right to privacy and equality. If we are to get beyiond ongoing hatred and slaughter, then it is time for us to begin to promote that equality. Otherwise, someday it will be someone else who says that it is people like you who should be thrown to the fires. It is time to stop that all around.

Peace to you

There are consequences for every action and every type of behavior we condone in society. We cannot allow every person to do what they want because there are people out there who believe that they were born to like young kids and that they should have the right to pursue there natural urges, some people are more prone to commit violent acts etc......We CANT allow people to do whatever they like. this self interest, self consumed society has consequences and it is called self destruction. what are the consequences of these bizarre activities (yes they are bizarre- the genitals are quite compatible for a reason). There are some people who feel that it is there right to walk around naked regardless of how others feel. there are others who believe that it is okay to have sex with animals. DON'T YOU SEE THE POINT. THERE ARE LINES THAT SHOULD NOT BE CROSSED. If you get out of your own little world and realize the consequences for allowing everything in the name of freedom, YOU ARE PLAYING YOURSELF. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF. BUT IT SHOWS THAT HUMANS NEVER LEARN FROM THE PAST.

I find it sad you feel you can tell others how to live their lives, and tell those who support human rights they should engage in discrimination and bigotry. Your comments appear to support discrimination and bigotry, but I would guess you don't actually feel that. I wish you well in finding a path toward equality, and an understanding that whatever you feel you have the righ to tell others they should change their lives, someone else feels they also have the right to call your life wrong. They would tell you you should get right with their god. We need to get past such thinking. it only leads to continuing hate.

I have picked up your bible, at great length and study, actually. Sorry, but I find it lacking.

Hi Dan,

Your home is beautiful. I would love to keep in touch, I will e-mail you my e-mail address. We are not sure what area we would like to move to because we are still young - just hit our 30's - and work from home. We need to be sure that our businesses will go on uninterrupted so that internet and phone connections are very important to us. We are in the process of eliminating our debt and are on target to do so by 2011, it is at that point we intend to move permanently. I will also be attending the 6 month reciprocal law program in Trinidad so that I can practice in Dominica if I choose and have noticed that the attorneys on the island seem to be concentrated in the capital. We do want to purchase land so that we can be as self sustaining as possible and may consider setting up a school in the future that would teach people to be self sustaining. Finally, our children are young and we have not yet decided if we are going to send them to private school or enroll them in a home schooling program. All in all, we are very open to the "where" and plan on spending some time on the island before we lay down our foundation.

Dan,

This is indeed a fabulous morning - I looked up Suki's Bar and Suki Bread - Suki's Bar will be my second stop when we visit in February (after settling in of course) and I will have to have some Suki bread, I have no doubt that it's excellent. I look forward to more conversations about Dominica as well since my husband and I have decided to make Dominica our permanent home within a couple of years. We are probably going to rent a home the first year and build our house once we decide what part of the island we would like to live on. We are in the process now of converting our land here in North Carolina and we do some volunteering at a local farm that provides food to Social Services in an effort to know how to live off of the land when we arrive in Dominica. It has been a really wonderful process learning what fruits, vegetables, seeds and plants nourish and heal. People who are involved with the Botanical Gardens in Dominica have been very helpful to us in this process. All in all, I appreciate the information this morning and look forward to meeting in Dominica.

Well, Dominica already has a bakery and bread named for you, so you'll likely fit right in. Perhaps we'll meet there someday. Our place is in Fortuné above Newtown and Castle Comfort, just south of Roseau. We bought an older two storey home and converted the downstairs into an apartment. One of our reasons for choosing Dominica is the amount of rain, we could pretty nearly live off our plot of land.

Peace

Dan

PS: Much rather be talking about Dominica than trying to put bias to rest.

PPS: Cecil at the Evergreen hotel down in Castle Comfort is one of the most genteel and gentle people we've ever met. He also makes the most kick-butt rum punch we've ever had. Try one sometime.

The other Dan somehow conflates racism with homophobia. I don't recall anyone saying you were racist.

As for "facts" I have seen none in your arguments, only biased opinion. I'll put my credentials and my research in this domain, and my approach based on theoretical and social science perspectives on a par with anyone's. Your arguments have been deeply culturally biased in a specific point of view, at a specific point in time in human development. You have allowed for no other ways of being than your own. That is by definition discriminatory.

Turning ad hominem around, the other Dan refers to those who disagree with him as being irrational. That is a type of motive. I'm glad you did good work for racial civil rights. You appear to have hit the wall, however, when it comes to gay rights.

So, as for irrationality, I see none in your position, only a narrow homophobic stance. I tend to call things as I see them, and have no compunction, obviously about labeling things what they are.

I wish you peace, and I certainly hope that people who get to make policy decisions do not share your views. Too bad that of late in our society, they have.
