Energy Minister Reginald Austrie made the announcement during a signing ceremony at Marigot Monday, for the establishment of a joint venture company between Dominica and Venezuela, under the PetroCaribe`initiative.

The Energy Minister said assistance for housing; education and energy are on the cards for Dominica.

Mr. Austrie said “Dominica and Venezuela has had relations for the past twenty five years now, but is only in recent times that with the advent of the Dominica Labour Party and more particularly the Roosevelt Skerrit as Prime Minister of Dominica we have sort to embrace and strengthen the relationship that we have had with Venezuela over the last twenty five years and that has manifested it self in tangible ways, the ten million dollar contribution to the expansion of Melville hall airport, twenty five Dominican students now studying in Venezuela to be increased by a further twenty five and in recent times a significant boost that was given to our housing project.

when the prime Minister visited Venezuela just last week, but we had promised the Dominican people five hundred houses in five years, our discussions last week in Venezuela is going to make that a reality since we have been promised some serious financial assistance towards that sector, so the relationship with Venezuela continues to grow and what is more important is that the government of Venezuela is asking back for nothing from the people of Dominica”.
