Here is another interest “agree to disagree” topic, brought about by the Speaker of the House Alix Boyd-Knight, who is a strong advocate against domestic violence towards women.

The speaker is of the view that if a man has sex with his wife without her consent it should be considered as rape, and should be considered a criminal act.

Boyd-knight is asking that the Sexual Offenses Act by reviewed by parliament - because in 2008 Dominican married woman are still being treated as “chattel.”

The Sexual Offenses Act Laws of Dominica under rape (chapter 10; Article 49) states that “any person who is convicted of the crime of rape is liable to imprisonment for ten years.”

I’m very curious to hear your comments on whether or not rape within marriage should be made a criminal act? Share your opinions in the comments.

———–My Personal Note———–

I believe there are times where the Speaker of the House can be a bit impartial, but this time I’ve to agree with her. There are too many cases where a lot of men in Dominica believe that once a woman say “I Do” – that she have given up all her rights as a human being. There is no logically reason why a man should force him on any woman, or own even worse his wife.

Yet there seems to be a strange indifference to this type of rapist. The law, in particular, has been slow to recognize that wives are not mere chattels of their husbands. Personally…jail them all I say!

This is adorable, rapper Snoop Dogg on the Martha Stewart Television Show sharing his top 5 Fatherhood tips. Did you Martha face when snoop read tip number #5, looked like she lost her funny bone – Martha! When living in the ghetto fatherhood takes on a whole new meaning.

I like Snoop Dogg tips, and some folks might not agree with me when I say – that these fatherhood tips would work great here in Dominica; particularly, tip #2 “No when to be mean and no when to be a friend” and tip# 3 “Always stay in control“. And just maybe our fathers can regain control their children.

I’m curious to hear your tips on fatherhood and how parents can regain control over their children. Share ‘em in the comments.

trust

Over the weekend the US Federal Government agreed to rescue struggling Citigroup Inc, which will absorb potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in losses and injecting fresh capital into the troubled financial giant.

I ask myself, what it is that these financial companies doing wrong or did wrong in the past? But it just goes to show that no matter how big company get, it shouldn’t get bigheaded in its success and forget who butters its bread. But somewhere along the line, a lot of companies forgot the three basics of building a good business that will survive any financial crisis. These three basics are:looking at the future, earning customer trust, and being able to manage the business well.

I can’t stress enough about trust. I believe as long as a customer trusts a company products or services, (s)he is going to come back. But just as success, trust is easy to find – but maintaining that level of trust is the hard part.

The Governmental system in Dominica is a good example where people have trust in the abilities of those who were elected to govern. But it’s not only the governmental system many people have lost trust in, but they’ve lost trust in each other, and that kind of mind-set can bring crisis to any economy.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the present global financial crisis.
