LIME Creole in the Park kicked off yesterday at the historic Botanical Gardens. Although there were some concerns over the weather in the early part of the day, but it actually worked out OK.

Strange sound mixing issues continued to plague the performers, and there was a definite absence of that ‘Creole in the Park’ vibe on the opening day.

Whether that will remain true for tomorrow’s show, offering a more stacked line up headlined by Swinging Stars and the Carib Calypso Connection performance remains to be seen.

The only main stage bands worth mentioning for me on the day one were the Original Serenade Band, who put on a solid energetic performance, and Kompa Kila from Guadeloupe, who seemed to get better with each song.

Finally, the highlight of the day for me was definitely the Fanatik Bank. Not only did they inject the party vibe with some much needed energy, but they put on a fantastic performance which coincided with whole Independence Celebrations.

Overall, day one of Creole in the Park was much calmer than I imagined; also a lack of excitement and energy. I’m expecting more fun, but more logistical frustration, from Day 2.
