Barack Hussein Obama II has been elected President of the United States of America. The now former junior senator from Illinois will become the first black president in U.S. history when he takes office in January 2009.
President-elect Obama was able to carry several key swing states that went to the Republicans in 2004, including Ohio.
Barack Obama will take control of the Oval Office while, at the same time, his party will control both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
