Dominica Carnival Queen Contestant Amy Sasha Polydore

Amy is a 20 year old gem from the picturesque and tranquil community of Riviere Cyrique and is honored to make representation for the South-Eastern District in the 2010 Carnival Queen Pageant.

Born and raised into the care and affection of her extended family Amy has blossomed into a well-mannered, charming, fun-loving, pleasant lady with a gentle disposition and an infectious ever-present heart-warming smile.

Becoming Miss Dominica has always been Amy’s dream. It all began at the Morne Jaune Primary School where she was first introduced to the stage.

She acquired her secondary education at the Castle Bruce Secondary School. Amy distinguished herself through being an exemplary student. In her final year of high school, Amy was honoured with being crowned Miss CBSS 2005. At her graduation, she was recognized as the Student of the Year and captured the awards for School Spirit, Leadership and that of the Most Disciplined Student.

Miss Amy Sasha Polypore continued to make her mark on stage when she was crowned pageant queen, Miss South East 2006. She also furthered her education at the Dominica State College from which she graduated in 2008 with an Associate Degree in Business Administration.

Amy loves singing, folk dancing and drama and finds exquisite delight in writing poetry. She is an active member of the Sisserou Singers group, and presently serves as the secretary of the Morne Riviere Teen Club. She is also a member of her church choir.

Currently employed at the First Caribbean International Bank as a Client Services Officer, Amy aspires to pursue studies in marketing, especially as it relates to the banking industry. She is a people’s person! Increased knowledge in that field, she believes will equip her with the skills required to offer more specialized advice to persons on products which will benefit them from the wide-ranging services available at banking institutions.

Amy thrives on the positives and takes pride in overcoming challenges. It is that well cultured, good-natured, free spirited, ever friendly personality that drives this Nature Island beauty towards the attainment of the coveted, Miss Dominica, 2010 title.

Twenty-one-year old Dana Augustine from the well known cultural community of Paix-Bouche stands tall both in physical make-up and in mind-set. She is a proud and confident young lady who always strives to be the best that she can be. This has been the result of her upbringing and the strong values instilled in her by both her parents and community.

Dana has been involved in a number of organizations from a very tender age. These include the Anti Drug group, Paix-Bouche Creative Dance Troupe, the renowned Paix-Bouche Cultural Group and currently, she serves as the leader of the Catholic Youth Movement of her church community. Presently, she is employed at Scotia Bank Dominica. She graduated from the Dominica State College with an associate degree in Accounts, and currently, she pursues studies in Accounting at the University of the West-Indies.

Dana takes interest in reading novels, dancing and engaging community projects. She is also a proud West Indian cricket fan. She sees herself as a firm, courageous and friendly young woman adamant to live her life based on sound principles, respect and profound appreciation for life.

Dominica Carnival Queen Contestant Shama St Hiliare

Known as the Carnival baby in her family, 20-year-old Shama St.Hilaire was born in Grandbay on Carnival Tuesday 1989. At the tender age of 6 she moved to Pichelin where she currently resides.

Shama attended the Convent High School where she was inspired by her teachers to pursue her love for languages and literature. Upon graduation, her efforts were rewarded with the Outstanding Language Student Award. After graduating from the Convent High School she enrolled at the Dominica State College and obtained an Associates Degree in Tourism & Hospitality.

It was her love for meeting new people that prompted her to seek employment in the hospitality industry where she quickly became promoted to the Front Office Supervisor and Reservationist, and got the opportunity to showcase her language and communication skills. She is currently employed at Cyberland Internet Cafe as the Sales and Operations Officer. If afforded the opportunity however, she plans on pursuing a career in law.

Shama enjoys reading, writing short stories and poetry and believes that these activities are fundamental to the development of young persons today. She also enjoys being adventurous at times, and participates in outdoor sports including hiking and snorkeling.

She believes in individuality and would like to use her participation in this pageant to urge young persons to be themselves, and not conform to society’s belief of what is perfect because in reality nobody’s perfect.
