The Dominica Watersports Association will officially launch Dive Fest 2008 today at the Fort Young Hotel. Dive Fest is in its 15th consecutive year, making it the longest running dive festival in the Caribbean.

The main goal behind the Dive Fest is to promote local employment in the industry, and to conserve the natural resources by educating people on marine issues. All proceeds from Dive Fest will go toward the association’s marketing goal in promoting Dominica as one of the best diving destinations in the world.

Dive Fest 2008 is July 11th to 20th, 2008 - Dominica’s Annual Scuba Diving Event.

Dive Fest 2008 is set to begin on July 11th with the Annual Cable and Wireless Dive Fest Happy Hour with Dominica’s number one party band - Swinging Stars at the Fort young Hotel. The fest will run until July 20th with different diving activities around Dominica. Some of the main activities to look forward to are: the Beginner’s Dive of the Reef, Wine and Cheese Party at the Evergreen Hotel, the Underwater Treasure Hunt sponsored by Victorinox- Swiss Army, a one day shoot trying out the newest cameras from Sealife, and the grand Soufriere Kubuli Beach Party to end Dive Fest 2008.

Dive Fest is annual event hosted by the Dominica Watersports Association, were the association focus its attention on the sport of Scuba Diving, also to educate the general public the basis on scuba diving, and showcases why divers chose Dominica as is one the top diving destination in the world.

Dive Fest 2008 is planning to bigger than ever , with big name sponsors like Victorinox- Swiss Army, Jewellers International, Cable and Wireless Dominica, and Sealife. As the longest running Dive Festival in the Caribbean we are now planning our 15th year of Dive Fest - has become one the premier annual diving events in the Caribbean.

St. Mary’s Academy student, Rohaan K. Allport, is the winner of the 2008 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Environmental Poster Competition.

The FCCA poster competition is held annually and seeks to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among students and educate the younger generation on the importance of environmental protection this year’s poster contest attracted entries from approximately fourteen nations. Each participant’s poster should have depicted at least three (3) ways in which his/her destination can make a difference in preserving the environment.

Other programs held by the FCCA include: the annual FCCA Caribbean Cruise Conference and Trade Show, bringing together over 100 cruise executives and 800 cruise industry partners; the FCCA Foundation for the Caribbean, which serves as a tangible mechanism for the cruise industry to participate in the effort to support humanitarian and social causes throughout the Caribbean and Mexico; the Caribbean Beach Clean-Up Program; and Tourism Essay Contests for Caribbean and Mexican students.

Rohaan was awarded a cash prize of US$3000 as the winner in the senior category, along with US$3000 for his school at an exclusive luncheon aboard the Carnival Destiny. Government Officials from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Tourism as well as representatives from Discover Dominica Authority and Rohann’s parents were present at the luncheon.
