Experience Dominica – The Nature Island: Dominica Vacations | Exotic Vacations | Honeymoon Destination

Dominica weekly is a personal weblog about the nature island of Dominica.

In one month Dominica has already recorded its third fire scare, on Thursday morning after a house in the town of Portsmouth caught fire. a medical student of the Ross University narrowly escaped in the early hours of Thursday morning after the bed he was asleep on caught fire.

A student reported that he was engaged in some night studies when he dosed off, after feeling an unusual intense heat the student, who was not named, awoke with his bed on fire.

The fire occurred in a concrete apartment in the town and that fire destroyed all the contents of that apartment.

An ongoing investigation is still being conducted by the police to out what exactly cause of the fire.

Two more fires were reported in the city of Roseau within the last month.

Yup! Its time for another beach review, after reviewing Batibou beach which is on the Atlantic and remote side of the island, I thought I’d make this review a change of pace. Prince Rupert Bay stretches quite a distance from Portsmouth to Cabrits National Park. Near the Cabrits end, right on the road and accessible mere steps from parking, you will find a wonderful beach. And, if you enjoy the convenience of having food and beverages right on the beach, the Blue Bay restaurant is just a few steps away.

How To Get To Prince Rupert Bay Beach

Of course, you can walk to the beach if you live in Portsmouth, but if you’re staying as far away as Ross University which is on the other end of Portsmouth, you can just take a bus. Even if the bus drops you at the main bus terminal in the center of Portsmouth, the beach is only a short walk away. And, you’ll be passing a number of excellent places to pick up sandwiches and bottled drinks on your way.

Come On Down And Lose Your Frown 😀

Don’t worry about protection from the sun? There are huge almond trees and a gazebo near the Purple Turtle. Because the beach is popular and accessible, you can meet people and make new friends there. You might even find an impromptu volleyball game to join or watch. By all means, bring your own Frisbee or Nerf football and invite people to play. Need a break from the beach? No problem, stroll along the road towards Portsmouth and take in the shops. Or walk over the causeway to the Cabrits and take a tour of Fort Shirley. So, when it comes to fun, Prince Rupert Bay beach is the one.

Tonight Luida and I went to Subway to try one of their sandwiches. Subway three weeks ago opened their second outlet in Dominica, the first being at Ross University. Guess we Dominicans are alike all, the idea of driving all the way to Portsmouth for an overprice sandwich…is not so cool 🙁 So the only option was to open an outlet in the capital city Roseau.

What makes Subway so great I’m not sure! Maybe because everything is made fresh, unlike KFC and McDonald’s process foods. I guess tonight is the night to find out.

Waiting Line

Subway inside view

The waiting area is not that big nor is the whole restaurant, for the few minutes I stood in the line I could observe the line stretching way back. On a busy day the restaurant could get fill very easy, that’s why most customers order their sandwiches to go.

Couldn’t decide my order; so many subs to choose from…should I go ahead the Subway Melt which has Turkey breast, Ham, Bacon, cheese and standard veggie. Or the Italian B.M.T Sub.This menu is a bit intimidating.

Italian B.M.T

Italian B.M.T Subway Sandwich

Finally, I went with the Italian B.M.T Sandwich, comes with Pepperoni, Genoa Salami and Ham.

Pay there

Subway Cashier

All in all the Italian B.M.T is a great tasting sandwich, but the bread is a bit to soft for my liking, and a little too pricey for my part. The B.M.T will set you back EC$21.50 for a foot-long or EC$10.75 for the 6 inch size. Next time maybe I will try the Subway Melt – which comes with turkey beast, Ham and Bacon. And only set you back Ec$19.00 or Ec12.50 for the 6 inch or there always the popular Tuscan Chicken sandwich. On a price stand point, its a bit to expensive and takes out the meaning of value meal. For example the foot-long sub cost on an average $20.00ecd plus drinks $7.00ecd. On average you will send $27.00(US$10.00) I was still hungry after sharing the sandwich with liuda.

Subway is located on the corner of Kennedy Avenue and Independence street, on the same street with Perkys Pizza coming into town. So if you’re in Roseau …try a sub …besides the high prices it’s much healthy than eating KFC. 🙂
