Known as the Carnival baby in her family, 20-year-old Shama St.Hilaire was born in Grandbay on Carnival Tuesday 1989. At the tender age of 6 she moved to Pichelin where she currently resides.
Shama attended the Convent High School where she was inspired by her teachers to pursue her love for languages and literature. Upon graduation, her efforts were rewarded with the Outstanding Language Student Award. After graduating from the Convent High School she enrolled at the Dominica State College and obtained an Associates Degree in Tourism & Hospitality.
It was her love for meeting new people that prompted her to seek employment in the hospitality industry where she quickly became promoted to the Front Office Supervisor and Reservationist, and got the opportunity to showcase her language and communication skills. She is currently employed at Cyberland Internet Cafe as the Sales and Operations Officer. If afforded the opportunity however, she plans on pursuing a career in law.
Shama enjoys reading, writing short stories and poetry and believes that these activities are fundamental to the development of young persons today. She also enjoys being adventurous at times, and participates in outdoor sports including hiking and snorkeling.
She believes in individuality and would like to use her participation in this pageant to urge young persons to be themselves, and not conform to society’s belief of what is perfect because in reality nobody’s perfect.
