Yesterday I picked up all of our Carnival Tuesday T-shirt band gear from Kairi Fm-‘The Genuine Sound of Dominica’. This year Liuda and I have joined Dominica’s number one party band Swingin Stars – MARDI GRAS MADNESS Carnival Tuesday T-shirt Band. Last year we stand and watch all the bands pass us by, this carnival Tuesday it’s all about “More Fete and Less Twaka” which means more reveling and less problem.

We decided to join the Mardi Gras Madness because the band is usually not overcrowded and getting to the drinks truck for a drink is not that difficult unlike some of the more popular T-shirt bands on the road. We plan on spending more time enjoying our carnival, not getting drinks from a truck. 😀

For EC$100.00 (EC$20.00 registration and EC$80.00 for band gear) we got:

  • 2 T-shirts
  • 2 Water bottles
  • 2 Rags
  • 2 Head-ties
  • 10 Drink Tickets
  • 2 Beaded Necklaces
  • 1 Whistle

If you’ve not registered for the band yet there are only a few days left, soon registration will close. You can register at Kairi Fm, if its not too late.

Earlier this week, I wrote about The Secret of Success in Eight Words, but nothing that this distinction is not necessarily restricted to the world of financial gain. Sport in one arena where the lines can get quite blurry at times, but with the Australian Open wrapping up this past weekend, we saw two prefect examples of players who were heavily driven by ambition and not by greed. As a result, both players were able to accomplish more than they ever thought possible.

One of the slogan for Adidas is “Impossible is Nothing”, so it was only fitted that both of these players were sponsored by Adidas as they faced off in the men’s singles final. If you’re a follower of tennis and you look at the path taken by Novak Djokovic (pictured) of Serbia and Jo-wilfried Tsonga of France, you’ll see that no one would have ever expected them to be participating in the Australian Open final against one another. The odds were heavily against them and yet they prevailed. With everyone comparing them to other players, didn’t discourage them, but only motivated them further. They believed in themselves. Sadly to say, but motivation is something most of our Dominican sports men and women don’t have; we are too busy blaming someone or something for their failures.

I know that I can come off sounding very pessimistic sometimes, but that’s because I tend to ground myself in reality as much as possibilities. That said, in order to achieve astronomical success, you have to set the bar high and refuse to give in to the odds, refuse to acknowledge the near-impossible path before you. Look at what Djokovic and Tsonga managed to achieve. They have a lot to be proud of. Without goals and aspirations, all of us would be stuck in stagnation and mediocrity.

Seriously, the clouds are actually touching the ground. My apartment seats a higher than where clouds sail. Thanks Dominica ❗
