Queen Nakita

A homecoming fit for a queen is what Cable and Wireless gave to Miss Dominica Nakita Bruno upon her return home from Tortola on Tuesday after winning the Miss Caribbean World Pageant in Tortola. The 19-year-old beauty who outclassed seventeen other contestants also walked away with the awards for Miss Intellect, Best in Costume and Best Swim wear.

Earlier this year, Cable and Wireless signed a three year agreement with the National Development Corporation for the sponsoring of Dominica’s carnival. As part of the company’s corporate responsibility, Cable and Wireless organized a grand motorcade for Nakita beginning from Canefield into Roseau and surrounding areas including Bath Estate, Goodwill and Newtown. The lovely Nakita waved and smiled to those who turned out to congratulate her and share in her joy.

At the Press Conference which followed at the Cable and Wireless Roseau Conference Room, Chairperson of the Queen Show Committee Marcella Larocque encouraged Nakita to continue striving to win other upcoming regional pageants, while Executive Director of the Dominica Festivals Commission Val Cuffy felt that Miss Bruno’s victory vindicated her from all the controversy which followed her carnival queen victory.

Cable and Wireless Chief Executive Nabeel Bhatti extended congratulations to Her Majesty Nakita and reminded her of her promise made after winning the Miss Dominica title that she would represent her country to the best of her ability in the regional and international arena. Mr. Bhatti also presented her with one year complimentary X-net High Speed Internet from Cable and Wireless.

For Queen Nakita, the experience was one she will cherish forever since it has been a few years since a Carnival Queen won a regional pageant for Dominica. She used the opportunity to thank Cable and Wireless for the warm welcome on her return home and extended sincere gratitude to all those who worked with her in preparation for the pageant particularly her chaperone Ernie Harris. During the 2006 Carnival Queen Pageant, Nakita Bruno was sponsored by the Bankers and Financial Associations of Dominica represented by Francess-Ann Francis at the Press Conference.

Nakita’s next competition will take her the Miss Caraval Pageant in St. Vincent.
