Dominica Colgate Palmolive (DCP) has been sold to a Barbadian company. However although there has been confirmation by the Minister for Trade Dr John McIntyre, neither the minister nor the bargaining agents for workers at the company, the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU) were willing to discuss the matter in any detail.
When contracted by the Chronicle about the issue, Dr McIntyre indicated that while he knew of the transaction, he was not fully aware of the specifics and therefore could not discuss it.
In September of this year, 91 employees at the company were made redundant as the Refresh section of the plant was closed. Restructuring was blamed for the move and although that move was anticipated by the workers union, this one came as a total shock to Augustus.
“I have no knowledge of this deal and this is news to me…I would like to know what is going on so that we can know what to do†he said
We can always count on our [Workers Union]… 😀
