No Oil Refinery Until Environmental Assessment

Prime Minister made it clear that the old refinery won’t be built until a complete Environment Impact study is done. But there are still rising concerns by the Waitukubuli Ecological foundation of the effects an oil refinery can have on Dominica’s environment.

Evangelical leader Angry at the Cross Re-dedication

An evangelical leader was angry at the re-dedication of the cross last night as part of the Reunion 2008 celebrations at Morne Bruce, saying in doing so it was ‘idolatry’. He said the cross was a place of black magic and voodoo. 🙂

Issue of Hotel Rooms

Prime Minister Skerrit indicated that the government is presently tackling the issue of hotel rooms, pointing out particularly the present situation in Portsmouth, were there are no hotel rooms available for visitor (not Ross Unversity students) in Portsmouth presently. PM Skerrit said that there are several projects on the card which will help elevate this problem.

Proposed Broadcast Act

Minister for Information Lorraine Bannis – Robert mentioned the proposed Broadcast Act, which will be discussed after the Carnival season. Stakeholder consultations would be the first phrase in the discussions.

Regional Prison and Police Service

One of the topics that might be on the card at the OECS heads of Government meeting in Dominica this week, is the topic of a regional prison and police service within the OECS member states.
