No Close Resolution to the High Rate of Electricity Set by Government

Minister for Petro Caribe Reginald Austrie and Energy Minister Charles Savarin held a discussion Friday which addressed community’s belief that Government was profiting from high electricity charges and burden nothing to relieve them.

The Government Ministers took time to clarify as best they could the snag of the ever increasing overheads and some of the contributing factors to the high speed of electricity. Consumers had been expecting the charge of their electricity to flinch down as a product of Petro Caribe, but that has not yet materialized. Austrie told the country Friday Government was not in receipt of cheaper fuel from Venezuela under the Petro Caribe covenant. He said Dominica was receiving fuel under the OPEC Agreement of which Venezuela is a portion.

Apart from calls for better effectiveness at DOMLEC, Energy Minister Charles Savarin believes devices for geo-thermal exploration is one effective way of shrinking the expense of electricity. Savarin himself admits the rate of the product is exceptionally high.
