People all around Dominica have been suffering from an outbreak of gastroenteritis, a truly horrible illness, especially dangerous to the very young or elderly, characterized by simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea.
Dominica has been further victimized by accusers saying that the cause is something in our water, or that our kitchen sanitation and personal hygiene are to blame
But if it’s something in the water, why doesn’t everyone drinking water from the same source become ill at around the same time?
And why, then do people who drink water from separate, quite different, sources (such as from Roseau and Portsmouth pipes, and rain collection) become ill? And certainly even if one kitchen here were unclean, how do people from nowhere near become ill? The answer is that the culprit is the norovirus, and it is brought here on filthy cruise ship galleys.
A good article on this can be found at:Caribbean Cruise Ship Turns Into Diarrhea Nightmare Vessel
It’s time to make the cruise ships clean up their acts, and also apologize to Dominica. Dominica’s water is clean, and people shouldn’t be advised not to drink it. Our kitchens are clean and produce delicious food that is good for you too, not the fat-laden, heart artery clogging stuff that the cruise ship galleys put out.
For sure it is not a water, because I drink it from the pipe all the time and I am ok.
And just because you are not sick doesn’t mean that it is not in the water. There is a reason these bugs kill very young and very old. The folks whose ages come in the middle tend to have immune systems that are strong enough to fight off these things.
Did you check my immune system to tell that it is strong?
Yeah. While it is an issue that needs to be addressed it is not localized. The US is seeing more cases then normal as well and our water is MOSTLY okay to drink. 🙂
I am not an expert, but I see it as yet another virus gone international.

With a serious sickness like that it is better to take precautions, rather than argue about whose fault it is. Whether the source of this sickness is from our drinking water or not, why don’t we advise our people to make sure that water from taps is properly boiled before drinking.
Also, with spring water available in bottles all over the country, why not use it for drinking instead of tap water?
Impractical:
1. Boiling water takes gas energy and many people have a hard time affording cooking gas.
2. If you boil it you must have time for it to cool and storage bottles. Many people can’t afford the latter.
3. Bottled spring water is very expensive. There are natural springs, but then people must have clean bottles to put it in and the transports to carry it — water is heavy.
We drink only beer, and got no virus at all. So, for sure, is not in beer.
I’ve just learned that my niece’s two boys both got the gastroenteritis. In Connecticut, USA. It must be the water.
Yeah…Arizona State University had to cancel their softball game this weekend as the team from Florida was sick with it.
