Succeed

One of the more popular songs at this years Calypso Finals, is a song by the reigning calypso monarch the Hunter called “Succeed.” The song basically speaks about how girls are succeeding more at school than boys. And it’s a fact; girls are doing much better at tertiary level than boys. Why boys are not succeeding in school? There are a million and one reasons – too long for this post, but at this rate we’re going girls will be occupying all the managerial positions; if they’re not already.

Not to long ago I came across this article which spoke about –The Secret of Success in Eight Words, which I found to be true. But when I thought about it, most of the values to be successful are non-existent in boys and the majority for Dominican men today. It doesn’t matter at what stage you’re in your life; to be successful you must know the values of success.

The Secret of Success in eight words
1.Passion – Do it for love, not for money
2.Work – Nothing comes easily, work hard and have fun
3.Good – Be damn good at what you doing, practice, practice, practice
4.Focus – Focus on one thing
5.Push – Push yourself, push your shyness and your self doubt, even your mother can help
6.Serve – Serve other something of value
7.Ideas – Have a good Idea
8.Persist – You have to persist through failure or through CRAP

Criticism
Rejection
Assholes – excuse me!
Pressure

Anything left? What is your key to success?

Girls tend to be more compliant as students, especially at the adolescent school years. Also, the boys tend to despair of opportunities, and let their efforts decline.

Education is in and of itself an opportunity. You never know when something you’ve learned might be useful, even crucial. So, take advantage of your schooling. What you learn can never be taken from you, you can share it and still have it, too.

Good post. You make some great points that most people
do not fully understand.

I like how you explained that. Very helpful. Thanks.
