Purely Dominica

If you’re one of the many Dominicans who couldn’t get back home to join in the Reunion Independence Celebrations, here is a short taste of Carimi performance on the opening night of this year World Creole Music Festival.

Some of other bands who performed on the opening night were Grammacks –the New Generation, Oliver N’Goma, Nasio Fontaine, and WCK.

This is maybe Carimi’s third or fourth appearance at the WCMF, and with hits like “Player,” “Chagrin Criminel,””Are You Ready,” and “I Wanna Be” has been topping the charts all over the world in places such as Haiti, Guadaloupe, Paris, and of course Dominica.

So if you’re fan of Carimi, but couldn’t make it to the Creole Festival this year, here is small taste of what you missed on the opening of the 2008 World Creole Music Festival…Enjoy!

Every last Friday before Independence Dominica celebrates Creole Day.This is day where all Dominicans wear at least some variations of the national dress – the Wob Dwiyet is the centerpiece of Dominica’s National Wear and is worn in a variety of different styles.

To celebrate Creole Day this reunion year, the Cultural Division and the Dominica Reunion Committee held a Creole Dress Parade through the streets of Roseau showcasing the different variations of Dominica’s National Wear/Dress – while parade participants and visitors dance to the sweet sounds of Jing Ping music playing in the background.

Here are some photos from the Creole Dress Parade…enjoy ❗

The third day of Creole in the Park was surprisingly nice, despite the heavy rain which carried slightly into the latter part of the evening. Unlike day one and day two – day three for us was probably the most laid back, partly because it was raining most of the afternoon. As far as bands we covered on day three, I’ve to admit we missed a couple acts we wanted to see due to the rain, so we decided to take it easy and just casually walk the grounds to see if there anything interesting going on.

Day three started with performance by the cultural group karifuna, Point Michel Cultural Group, Phase 5 Steel band, Free Joseph, and Nature Vibes -one of the upcoming Reggae bands in Dominica.
Next on the main stage was Soca artist ‘Ricky T’, who is taking the Caribbean by storm with his soca hit song ‘Pressure Bloom’. No rain was going to defer Dominicans from seeing Ricky T perform.

The seventh act on the main stage was ever-hot, ever-exciting TripleKay International, who despite the rain rocked the massive crowd with hits from their new album Colours and their growing catalogue of hits.

Day three was brought to an end by the Kings of Cadence Midnight Groovers, who captivated crowd with many hits from the pass. The large numbers of returning Dominicans were particularly fun of the Midnight Groovers, seeing that it was Cadence music they grew up listening too.
