In my second day covering Cable and Wireless Creole in the Park, I had the opportunity to check out some of my favorite artists/calypsoians in action from the Cable and Wireless VIP Booth. Thanks to my boss, I got to hangout with the big-boys and have the VIP girls addressing my every need. Hmmm… I could definitely get used to this VIP treatment. 😆
Day two started with performances by the Cool Steel Orchestra, La Sal Differwans (cultural group), and by one of Dominica’s young upcoming bands – Xcess Groove.
Next on the main stage was Reggae star Nelly Stharre, who in my opinion rocked the crowd with a number of her mega hits like Peace & love and Soul Country from her 2004 album, entitled ‘Soul County’.
The fifth act on the main stage was a joint collaboration between Clint, Nayee, and Lloydie; who captivated the crowd with hits from their personal albums and growing catalogue. After their awe-inspiring performance, I got a chance to meet-up with some of the guys at the Cable and Wireless booth. One of the questions that I asked the guys was around their performance in front a well diverse Dominican crowd. According to the guys – “we are just proud to be apart of CITP, and to be able to celebrate Dominica’s 30 years of independence together with the many Dominicans who returned home to celebrate the reunionâ€.
In the final performance of the day which was also on the main stage was the Reunion Calypso connection segment backed up by Dominica’s #1 party band- Swinging Stars, featured a star-studded lineup of calypsoians like the Duchess, Tarina, King Dice, Daddy Chess, Hunter, Observer, Karessah, Scrunter, Tokyo, Skakey, Rabbit, and Tranada.
If is one thing I’ve learn from day two of Creole in the Park 2008, that it’s much better watching the performances from the VIP booth, and I guess the free drinks/food helps too. 🙂
Stay tuned to find out what happens on day three.
